Michelle keeps a cool head when the atmosphere turns rebellious

Running an event wouldn’t be possible without the unsung heroes behind the scenes. The people who keep a cool head when things get hectic, the people who can adapt to the moment whilst everyone else is enjoying the party. Michelle Vrancken is one such unsung hero. For several years now, she has been responsible for ensuring that all events at Rebelle run smoothly, acting as the link between the client and the guests, and between the concept and its execution.

“The great thing about events is that no two are ever the same. It’s all about constantly responding to new ideas and working with the client to create an event they’ll never forget.”

From the hospitality industry to the Event Management Group

Pampering guests has always been second nature to her. As a teenager, Michelle began her career in the hospitality industry, where the dynamic nature of the role immediately appealed to her. However, she soon realised she was looking for more than just the daily routine of the hospitality sector. She was searching for a place where creativity had more scope. When she joined Event Management Group (EMG), that was exactly what she found. Event Management Group is an events organiser that manages several unique event venues in and around Limburg.

“I’d known Danny Keppels, the founder, for some time. When he started building up Event Management Group and I got talking to him about his ideas, I jumped at the chance straight away. It was clear right from the start that at Event Management Group you can really let your creativity run wild. There’s a healthy sense of excitement involved, which energises me every single day.”

Practice makes perfect

She thus became Danny Keppels’ right-hand woman: first as location manager of The Great Hedge in Thorn, with several more venues added later on. “The early days were actually quite chaotic, to be honest. When the first enquiry about a wedding came in, we’d never actually done one before! Now I can proudly say that we’ve come across just about everything. Event Management Group has organised more than 1,000 weddings to date.”

With every gem that Event Management Group added to its necklace, Michelle was there. “From painting to refurbishment, we did everything ourselves in the early days. These days, the process is wonderfully streamlined. We’ve put structures in place so that we can now scale up quickly whenever an expansion is on the horizon.”

Gradually, Michelle realised that the business projects appealed to her the most. “When Rebelle joined the team – our largest venue in Maastricht – I knew that’s where I’d feel most at home. Varied projects, large-scale events, thinking on your feet: that’s what really gets my heart racing.”

Rebelle event venue in Maastricht

Rebelle Maastricht is not just any event venue; it is a former 17th-century church that now serves as a venue for all kinds of celebrations. From corporate parties, dinners and drinks receptions to presentations, conferences, trade fairs and product launches. The impressive architecture, complete with high vaults and grand windows, creates a stunning atmosphere. No event here is run-of-the-mill. It’s up to Michelle to ensure that every project becomes a unique event.

Unique and a touch rebellious

The overall experience – that, according to Michelle, is what organising an event is all about. That certain feeling that’s sometimes hard to put into words, but which every visitor takes home with them. To ensure that the Rebelle team can capture this feeling, Michelle always listens carefully to the client’s wishes.

“It all starts with the atmosphere or message they want to convey. What do they hope to achieve with the event? From there, we work together to develop a concept in which all the elements tie together seamlessly, from the layout and décor to the entertainment and the catering. Every detail counts. We aim for something unique and a touch rebellious.”

This means that Event Management Group works with the best suppliers, is flexible in the event of any last-minute changes, and ensures that everything runs smoothly.

“That’s the only way to ensure that guests aren’t just there, but actually have a real experience. Then, at the end of an evening like that, when all the pieces of the jigsaw have fallen into place and the positive feedback is pouring in, that gives me a massive boost. Because you can feel that an event has taken place that has really made an impression!”

Teamwork makes the dream come true

Of course, Michelle doesn’t do it all on her own. She can rely on a close-knit team of experienced event managers who work at Event Management Group. “The work can be intense, but we keep each other on our toes and motivated. Everyone makes their own unique contribution. What’s more, we’re flexible. I think that’s what makes us really strong. We’re all working towards the same goal: to create an event that people won’t forget in a hurry. That’s why we’re always on the lookout for new ideas.”

Trends in events

Michelle has a keen eye for those innovations.

“In today’s world, which is full of noise and distractions, the experience is becoming increasingly important. People are looking for unique experiences that really move them. We are therefore always looking for ways to innovate, such as through the use of technology, but also by developing surprising and creative concepts.”

In addition, sustainability is playing an increasingly important role. “We are therefore making a conscious effort in this area. Think, for example, of choosing local suppliers, menus featuring regional and seasonal produce, or responsible waste and energy management. These developments keep us on our toes and make our job challenging every single day!”
